i guess in every culture men are portrayed as strong or strenght, the source of provider and protector , and maybe living up to this image they i.e. the menfolk had to maintain a stoic stance n are not supposed to cry or get emotional easily though deep down in their heart they r quite emotional aswell.

i would say that italian ideology is that men are seen as weak if you cry.
