Oh, no! Not the pickled herring!!!
My father used to make me eat these when I was a naughty young lad. I find it difficult to have respect for authoritarian elders. I have always had respect for younger people because they are so untarnished by the hypocrisy and bitterness that many of our elders suffer with.
Very rarely have I gone unrespected by someone younger than I, I have found that as people get older, they can get more bitter and disrespectful than the young generation.
It is about time the older ones got off their case and let them live!!!
Give my pickled herring to someone in Africa, please ;- )

Being 15 years old, I find it hard to respect those younger than me. No offense to the freshman at my high school or the middle school kids, but they don't deserve my respect for the way they act. However; I don't try and start s*** with them. I do respect them and usually am the bigger person, but sometimes they just like to try and get on your nerves. A few of them are really cool.

I greatly respect my niece, Lottie, to the point of paying her school fees. Respect without action is empty, in my opinion (although of course you can respect someone dead whom you loved but can't do much about now eg my sister-in-law).
Is the herring you mention pickled ordinarily, or in curry like sometimes happens in Denmark?

I respect people who have courage, strength, wisdom, honor, integrity, and humor. I have known many like that, some younger, many older. Right now I am thinking of a friend of mine 7 years my minor who I respect a great deal.

I respect a LOT of people younger than me. Age is a number; what I respect is the person and how they act and how trustworthy they are.
And equally, I know a lot of older people who are bumptious and not worthy of much respect. You know the saying, "There's no fool like an old fool."

Absolutely I do! My niece who is 11 years old. She is a lovely person and we have a great rapport. I'm in my forties!! Age is only a number. Also, there are many many people older than me that I do not respect.
