Combining like terms just means that all the terms containing an r can be combined and all the terms containing a w can be combined. It's basic to simplifying an expression.

Commutative property of addition is that a+b = b+a (order is unimportant). This kinda seems like 'horse-sense', but there are many systems in which addition is -not- commutative (try adding socks and shoes to your feet in reverse order ☺)

24 r - 10 - 3r +4w + 12

21r + 4w + 2 = 0

- 8 - 10 y - 5x + 2y

- 8y - 5x - 8
8y + 5x + 8 = 0
