*WELCOME* to Yahoo Chess! :D
I have played on Yahoo Chess for years! I think it is really cool! :D

Everybody starts out as "provisional". After you play 20 games, you get a rating. If you are really good, you will start out with a high score, after your 20 games.

Yahoo Chess is SUPER COOL! I used to play it alot. I only play it rarely now, but I still play once in awhile. Maybe we can have a game! :)

Oh, and *WELCOME* to Yahoo Answers, tooh! You have found 2 of the greatest sites on the net! :D

Everyone starts off as a provisional player. You've got to start at the bottom and work your way up.

While you've played chess for years other people on the site never have, and there's no way for yahoo to know that, so that's why everyone starts off at the same level.

Start playing and winning and you'll work your way up in no time.

The system doesn't know you've played for that long though...

It shows 'PROVISIONAL' for the first 20 games, as a way to let people know that your rating may not be entirely accurate... After 20 games, your rating should be close to accurate, and your rating is then displayed...

People can still see your rating, even if you are a provisional player, through your profile screen...
