I have have several Mame ROMS that I have downloaded. Some games will run without any problems, while others will not run, and I get a messages that say the file cannot be run as files are missing from the ROM.

In this case are these ROMS just bad, or is there something else with my set up that might be causing these errors?

Are Neo Geo Games a certain designer...like Namco, Nintendo or Atari?

Yes neogeo games are like as you said.

With each new release on MAME many games change, this means roms change time to time. MAME uses roms as the basic game then you may need bios files they are to emulate the board that these games used to play, and lastly CHD file they are the largest file and used with the latest and greatest graphic demanding games.

Basically roms could be looked at like sports:
Football
baseball
soccer
rugby
They can all be played at the same stadium (the bios file)

The Stadium is the same place each time and what changes is the game played there. The CHD would be like am radio to High Def Radio, Much more information is offered. So you need to know the game then know what is needed to play the game. With out all of the proper equipment you aren't even going to see bit of it.

Depends... sometimes you can get crappy versions of roms, and files are missing in them.,.. or if they are neogeo games, you need the bios. look for neogeo bios on google.
