Snot is just mucous, same as produced in other areas of our bodies, it gets mixed with dust that we breath in and that is how solid boogers are made. When we are sick our bodies excrete more mucous as a by-product of fighting off an infection, when the snot is yellow it is filled with grotty germs.

mucous is the first line of defense our body has against foreign particles. this is so sticky so that all foreign particles are stuck to it and not allowed to further its part. mucous is present at all openings like the nose, throat and vagina. it cannot be present so thick at the eye because it would decrease visibility.
mucous is also alkaline this helps to kill some of the microorganisms present.
this mucous is produced by the mucosal cells lining the repiratory tract and vaginal opening.
this mucous is reffered to as snot in general day to day speech and when this mucous dries up it tiurns harder called boogers in dad to day speech.

mucous is there for a reason, if we didn't need it our body wouldn't produce it. It helps us fight infection plus it keeps your nostrils, and throat moist so you won't feel like your swallowing sand paper every time you swallow. When you're sick or have an infection it aids in the help to keep from more bacteria coming into your body. Your nostrils have hair to keep bacteria, dirt, or any other form of particles from entering you body and causing infection. Your nose cries when you're sick because it's removing the excess bacteria and fluids your body doesn't need.
