Despite what other people may have told you, your period does NOT stop when you're in the water. The water will only wash it away, stain your suit, and make you embarassed. Using tampons isn't a scary thing - you can't even feel them when they're inserted correctly! (:

If you don't want to use a tampon you could try using a menstrual cup. However, if you're not familiar with your body down there or your vagina then it will be difficult to use unless you have lots of tampon experience and lots of knowledge about your anatomy.

If you want to swim without internal protection then just wear a pad with your swimsuit and tie a cute cover-up skirt around your bottom to hide the "bulk" of the pad and just wade around in the water. Even though it's not as fun, it's more cleaner for everyone around you. Seriously.. would YOU want to swim with someone who is having their period and isn't using ANY protection? Didn't think so.

You can insert a tampon by unwrapping your tampon and then hold the applicater with your dominant hand. Use your free hand to seperate the lips/labia of the vulva. Grab the finger-grips with your thumb and middle finger. Ease the tampon into your vagina while angling it towards your bottom. Most people don't know this but the vagina actually lies flat and it doesn't go up. Continue angling your tampon and pushing it in towards your tailbone until the finger-grips are right outside of your vagina and the bigger tube is completely inside of you. Then with your index/pointer finger push the skinny tube into the bigger tube which is already inside of you. Once the skinny tube is all the way in then you pull the applicater out with the finger-grips and toss it in the trash. The string will be left hanging outside of your body, so just tuck that into your underwear.

If the applicater doesn't go in all the way and you pop open your tampon then it will be very uncomfortable so make sure you get it in all of the way. You might also have better success by using Playtex SlimFit tampons and using a little bit of lubricant on the applicater to help it slide in. After a few years of tampon experience you may want to have safer, healthier, and more environmentally friendly protection by using a menstrual cup! Good luck!

Something to think about is that most women will try to use a tampon at some time (if they don't already). Periods shouldn't get in the way of having fun and doing the activities you enjoy! And if you're planning on doing certain activities like swimming while on vacation, some women often find that tampons are the best option for them. They allow a lot more freedom of movement and you can do things like swimming without any worries.

Are you close with any females (like your mother, sisters, other people in your family, or any friends) that you could ask about this? If you feel comfortable talking with someone, or simply trying out tampons by yourself (each box comes with illustrated instructions) that is the route I'd take. What's important is learning how to insert the tampon properly. Once it's in, you shouldn't even be able to feel it at all! And after a little practice you don't even think twice about using them!

The main thing to keep in mind is that it's important to relax as much as possible. If you're nervous, it can make the vaginal muscles tense up, and that can make insertion harder. It may also help to start with a slim tampon with a plastic applicator because they can be easier to insert. Also remember that generally the tampon may go in easiest at a slight angle.

If your flow is heavy, the tampon should glide in easily. If you want to practice before your vacation (which would maybe make you feel the most comfortable), lubricating the rounded end of the tampon applicator with a water-based gel such as K-Y jelly (you can get this in any store, usually in the same aisle as feminine products), for the first few tries, can also be helpful. But you SHOULD NOT use a petroleum-based jelly (like Vaseline®). It is not healthy to put Vaseline® in the vagina. You also should only continue to wear a tampon if you're actually ON your period.

If you feel comfortable with your mother or another female, if you talk to them, I'm sure they could help you learn what to do, especially if you want to learn how to use a tampon before your period starts or you go on vacation! And you can always take pads along as a backup. I remember the first time I tried tampons, it was because I was on vacation at a lake, and I wanted to swim. It took a couple tries (and a couple tampons) to get the first one inserted properly, but I was really excited when I did and couldn't believe how easy it really was!

If you are going swimming you HAVE to wear a tampon. You have no choice. Going without WILL cause you to BLEED IN THE WATER! Plus, it is unsanitary, would you want to swim in another girl's menstrual blood. If you are going swimming wear a tampon, or stay out of the pool

(Water does NOT stop a period. It just washes away the blood)

You don't want to just wear a black bathing suit. It really could end up messy. Your best bet is to use tampons. They really don't hurt at all as long as you're using the correct absorbancy. You can start out with the "juniors" or light flow ones. I've found it's hard to get them by themselves, so you might need to get a multipack. They have directions right in the box on how to easily insert them, and once it is in, you don't feel it at all. I was around 13 when I started using them, and I've never gone back!

ok..well if your swimming in a famil pool it should be ok and if you dowear a black bakini it wont even show unless it leaks out and tampons dont hurt at all ^^ but also if your in a community pool id be carefull just incase. but it really all depends on how much you bleed with your period

Tampons or NO SWIMMING.

Your period DOES NOT stop nor does it slow down while you are in the water. You WILL bleed in the water. The water disperses the blood so it only looks like it slows or stops but it does not.

Try the slenderest lightest absorbency tampon. Take your time as it took me a while to put in my first tampon, but after you get used to it its easy to insert.

Sorry to sday sweetie but the blood will leak out. If you are nervous about using a tampon, practice. It really isn't painful, maybe alittle uncomfortable if you don't insert it correctly. Also they have different sizes, try a slimfit tampon, if you're willing.

Hope this helps!!

Wearing a tampon is the only way to go swimming while on your period. Tampons, when inserted properly, do not hurt, I assure you. :)

The menstrual flow will not stop/slow down while bathing/showering/swimming.

Eww. How can you even think of not wearing anything? That's gross. You need to wear something because otherwise you will leak blood. Wearing tampons does not hurt and they are really easy to use.
