A term first coined by Victor Newman in "The Knowledge Activists Handbook" where he describes that "The role of the knowledge activist is to be unreasonable, to identify and combine those small grains of truth that have the potential to become pearls."

In some context, "reasonableness", is considered bad.

People can always come up with good reasons, why sales are down, why they can't do this or that, why the company is not making money.

The "pearls" are reasons why the sales are up, not all the reasons (excuses) as to why sales are down.

Knowledge activists are the people who are enthusiastic about understanding how processes in the business work. They are the people who are constantly looking to innovate the way they do things. Innovative employees often figure out how to handle exceptions and new scenarios that aren't covered by standard processes. There is no required skill, just a passion in thinking up new ways to do things better by making use of all the knowledge and experience they possess.
