There are no options. Just as land sells with a deed, vehicles sell with a title, and you should have received the title from the seller, or not have bought the car in the first place.

There are title companies that claim to be able to get a title for you, but they don't come cheap.

The reality is you may have something you can use only for parts.

Two things come to mind. The past owner did not pay some one (stolen) or the car has a mechanic lien or other financial problem preventing the title to be released. You can apply for title and have the car seized and taken away.

If you have a bill of sales with the sellers signature bring it to the DMV and file for a lost title. when they run the VIN it will show if the vehicle is legitimate.

do a title search frist to make sure it is not stolen !
if title comes back clean then proceed
you may be able to ask for lost title ?
then try to get new title and have it switched over.
