Fact is, the masses could control our government if they choose to do so. Unfortunately, most people are too complacent to anything that would promote change within our system.
Most of our career politicians from both sides have sold us out. Oh sure, they'll tell us what we want to hear, will pander for votes to become reelected and then turn around and vote against their constituents because they're bought and paid for by special interest groups and big business.
It's up to us, the voters, to keep these people on their toes. Most of us have the tools to do that and it's called the Internet. How many bother checking the voting records of our own representatives? How many bother to find out where the campaign funding comes from that continually places these people into office? How many check to see if their campaign promises have even been fulfilled? The answer is, few people do that. Instead, we find ourselves complaining and fighting amongst ourselves.
Focus not only on the Presidential election, but take the time to go beyond that and focus on those with the real power, those on the hill, the very people that allow the elite to influence their decision making.

What gave you the idea that there is an elite class? It's funny how you take the time to waste your points and ask this question but I'll bet you've never written a letter to any of your reps, right? We the people, remember this phrase? by the ppl, for the ppl, of the ppl. Unfortunately, people complain in all the wrong ways. Tell the people you voted in to represent you!!

Unfortunately, its money that governs everything. The UK system of government has never been what it purports to be. Its a riddled society and like a pack of cards manipulated in the extreme by the UK's best aristocracy poker players. They never lose! Only the electorate inevitably, invariably pay at the end of the day!

America was set up to be self-governing, but we have always had to work to keep that way. I believe in government by the people. As it stands, we have the right to inform ourselves and others about the decisions our elected officials are making and vote them out. It is a constant battle, but I believe it's a battle worth the time and energy put into it.

No. I prefer to have the majority rule. As it is now, the elite have too much influence over our lives. I don't know about you but I'm sick of these gas prices.

Whether we like to admit it or not, ALL government is run by elite.
In America, as with most republics, federal politics is reserved mostly for the weathy upper-class. Anyone who believes that 'thier vote counts just as much' is lying to themselves.

Our government is run by Corporations. They donate, gov't responds. There is no such thing as 'by the people'.
