The sounds of summer, a light breeze in the trees, a shriek of some child or the clatter and noise of children leaving school and going home. I love that sound when the streets of any town or city empty and what was seeming crowds dissipate and vanish. Of course these sounds are nothing without the images and smells that accompany them, the smell of cut lawn grass and home cooking create a perfect melange which will always remind me of being a bubbly, free child without the nonsensical neuroses of adulthood.
It is that occasional sound which registers so tremendously in my heart; a sudden cry of a cat I can't see, distant music of which I know not where it is coming from or the voice of a mother looking for a child she can't find. These sensory experiences are the essence of being alive, they are almost its definition.

The pop sound when you break the seal on a new jar of coffee, waves crashing on a beach, rain on a window pane, a really great song, my children laughing, a mountain stream, the sound of the cash machine counting out my money, opening a bottle of corked wine, spanish guitar, a crackling fire.

The sound of excited children shrieking as they play - childhood is so short anyway, why spoil their innocent fun.

The sound of the sea - waves crashing on the beach.

Uuullllaaaaaaaa - the sound of the Martians from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, it sends shivers down my spine.

My favourite sounds involve water! I like to hear waves gently lapping onto a beach - very restful. I also like to hear waves crashing onto rocks - very majestic! And the tinkling sound of a small waterfall or the gurgling of a brook is also very relaxing.

Yes that it is, I also like the sound of a waterfall, sounds like thunderous roar. You made me in the mood to go and do some mountain hiking, been a while since I've been in the mountains.!!!
