Great question!! Yes ... I am a strong supporter of several charities. St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Catholic Charities USA, American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation, Disabled American Veterans (my dad is a Vietnam Vet), and the Make a Wish Foundation.

As a single mom it is hard, but I feel it is extremely important so I volunteer whenever I can. I want my son to understand how lucky he is to have a roof over his head and a warm bed to sleep in so I also support our local homeless shelter with both $ and by taking my son to serve food to the homeless.

As a teacher I do a fund raiser with our student council every year for both the same local homeless shelter (for food at Thanksgiving) and in the Spring for the "Hats On Foundation" (for families of kids with cancer). I want to be sure my students understand the importance of giving and volunteering so they have a full and rewarding life.

Peace to you ... and God Bless you for your time and contributions in helping others ...

I have volunteered for a Big Brother-type charity, and also a soup kitchen... I often bring food over to a youth shelter, and I try as best I can to financially support the Cancer Society and the local SPCA.

Quite a few, some I give money to, some I have collected for or distributed collection envelopes for in the past. My favourite charity is the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) because I believe those guys deserve a lot of support for risking their own lives to save others.

Actually, our charitable contributions always go to local charities and organizations, such as homeless and abuse shelters, animal shelters, food pantries, etc.

Other larger organizations are ok, but we like to get the biggest bang for our buck and not have any of it eaten away by administrative costs (ie United Way).

And there's a warm feeling from knowing that your charity is totally appreciated right in your own community.

I support St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital. I was a patient there a couple of years ago and still go there twice a year for check ups. So, when I can, I support them.
