Or has it been quietly dropped as truth is generally a good defence in a libel action!

It's been dropped. Too many fronts for the McCanns, now they need to concentrate in their own defense.

It was conveniently dropped, right before the McCanns became suspects. The Portuguese media have been quite accurate with some reporting actually, such as the fact that the McCanns were both suspects, and that DNA was found in the hire car (this came days before it was announced by the PJ.) Mind you, if they are found to be innocent, every media outlet who has ever made an inaccurate report about the McCanns will be sued to high hell, because it's now all about the money, unfortunately.

well this was on thr front page yesterday of the sun it says in black bold letters MADDIE 'DUMPED IN THE SEA'

Madeleine McCann's body was dumped at sea and no trace will ever be found. portuguese cops feared last night.
They now think she may have been put into a weighted sack and hurled from a British-owned yacht.
The case against maddie's parents was crumbling after the theory emerged - for prosecutors have confided that without a body there will not be enough evidence to charge them.
The twist came as increasingly desperate cops, under growing pressure to unravel the 134-day mystery, made plans to re-question holiday pals of parents kate and gerry McCann.
The sea theory is one of the few police after four months of exhaustive land searches turned up nothing. Ocean speacialists gauged where a body dumped off a beach would have been washed back ashore by tides.
A body weighed down with stones and dumped in deep water from a boat several miles out, however, would simply disappear.
most of the yachts in Lagos Marina, one of the most exclusive on the Algarve, are British-owned.
Meawhile a friend of the McCanns told how the couple feel portuguese cops are "playing a game with them". She said: "They are very frustrated - they really do not know what is going on.
"Gerry and Kate feel police in portugal have forgotten about their daughter. The investigation has become political and they feel the police are playing a game with them. They just want them to concentrate on finding Maddie."

I do hope maddie is safe and well. gemm x

They knew they would lose. I am sure their case against Goncalo Amaral will also be dropped as the last thing they'd want is to put him in the witness box. Hopefully he will not drop his case against them - it's about the only hope for the time being to get the McLiars into a courthouse. Their preferred route for free money at the moment is to try and tap the American and Australian markets. Despite Oprah, America has been a failure for the McCann brand. Their ill-judged attempt to slander an innocent Australian has not helped them with the public Down Under. Next stop will be Asia - so wait for definite "sightings" of Maddie in Singapore/Japan and new "leads" in lucrative Eastern markets. They may also try to tap Argentina - Brazil may be too pro-Portuguese to stomach their vile roadshow.

I have been wondering the same thing. Surely if they are innocent of the crine, the money from the libel case will pay for their legal costs.
