Morning, It's a really stupid idea isn't it. Even more stupid are the folk who believe the McCanns should be searching under every leaf and down every cavern, and stupidest of all are the folk who really believe that's what they'd be doing right now. :-)

if the Portuguese police had done their job properly in the first place, we would have never needed to ponder this question!!!!i am still surprised that (as far as we know) one was never used to help speed up the search.he/she would have surely been a help at any stage. i have no idea how they would start looking for her at this point now,but i truly believe the parents and friends had nothing to do with her disappearance. even if it had been an accidental death and they tried to cover it up,surely at some stage the parents would have collapsed with grief?amid all the mud slinging at the parents and friends ,there is still a little girl lost out there somewhere which seems to have been forgotten somewhat lately. i think she is still alive and being hidden extremely well. i am not religious but have prayed every day for her safe return. if this does happen then i will be a believer.keep praying people!

It probably would of been easier for a PD at the start when Madeleine went missing but because its been so long now and the Portugese Police have made such a c*ck up of the whole investigation I doubt he would be able to do much now, which is such a pity

The use of a private detective is not allowed under Portuguese law whilst there is a police investigation going on.
