MARRIED BLISS?

Your eyes meet across a crowded floor
Your heart's a flutter, there is no more
No other lovers, no other beaus
The room is empty but for his one man show
Your word stands still for there is no other
He becomes your life, your friend and lover.
The life you had, went out, had fun
He's now your life, moon, stars & sun
Without him there your world stands still
For him you'd lie, you'd die, you'd kill
He's now the other half of you
You can't exist, what will you do?
"With this ring", you're duly wed
And then he takes you home to bed
For nights of passion and sated bliss
And warm embraces with a tender kiss
Your life's complete, so real the dream
But is this dream quite what it seems?
Within 6 months, there is no kiss
The warm embrace is now a fist
There are no tender, love-filled nights
Just drink-fuelled rows and violent fights
Once what was a loving hug
Has become a thump from a violent thug!

To all that have read and replied, unfortunately, it was my life, and the poem was written after he died. To the person who doesn't think that things like that happen, go to any womens' refuge. Im with someone now who is the complete opposite of my husband. And, to any woman/person out there who is, or has lived that life, get the strength to get out! I wish I had. If I'd known then what I knew 6 months later, no, I wouldn't have married him. That poem was written from the heart!

I Iike it.

A little slow to start, I initially thought it was going to be just a set of rhyming words. As the story evolved and the momentum built up I felt the rhythm and speed. Its emotional and should be in the entrance of a women's refuge. Hopefully you will soon write one about the escape and recovery.

OMG that's impossible. a guy that thumps his wife....she wouldnt have ever known bliss, no moon or such loving bliss...a guy that can hit his woman or show such violence?
that would have shown its ugly face right from the beginning.

so i disagree with your poem's content. tho shocking and has a good flow and rhymes well. but the content is a farce. made up or whoever thinks they are writing truth...is not facing the facts.

Ooh, you know I could make that a good song. I like the way the mood changes, right up my street! I could start the music all light and fluffy and end on a total Deftones trip. Mwahaha!!

Its excellent but very sad and I really and truly hope that this is not about you because poets often write about what has happened to them and their inner feelings. If it is you get out and get some help because you dont deserve this. God bless. Big hug.

Cleverly written and makes the reader think.

Now leave the b****** and find a man who won't hit you, you certainly deserve better.
