MARRIED BLISS?
Your eyes meet across a crowded floor
Your heart's a flutter, there is no more
No other lovers, no other beaus
The room is empty but for his one man show
Your word stands still for there is no other
He becomes your life, your friend and lover.
The life you had, went out, had fun
He's now your life, moon, stars & sun
Without him there your world stands still
For him you'd lie, you'd die, you'd kill
He's now the other half of you
You can't exist, what will you do?
"With this ring", you're duly wed
And then he takes you home to bed
For nights of passion and sated bliss
And warm embraces with a tender kiss
Your life's complete, so real the dream
But is this dream quite what it seems?
Within 6 months, there is no kiss
The warm embrace is now a fist
There are no tender, love-filled nights
Just drink-fuelled rows and violent fights
Once what was a loving hug
Has become a thump from a violent thug!

To all that have read and replied, unfortunately, it was my life, and the poem was written after he died. To the person who doesn't think that things like that happen, go to any womens' refuge. Im with someone now who is the complete opposite of my husband. And, to any woman/person out there who is, or has lived that life, get the strength to get out! I wish I had. If I'd known then what I knew 6 months later, no, I wouldn't have married him. That poem was written from the heart!
