I am an ESL teacher in South Korea and have been here for 5 years (I keep coming back like a yo-yo). I also lived in China for 6 months. At first, it is nerve racking and confusing, especially if you don't have a clue about the language. It is like being 3 years old again because you can't read anything. It is also a wonderful experience. I recommend everyone to try it at least once. It really builds personality. The people here are wonderful as most people are everywhere. The first year I was here I could barely make a sentence in Korean ( I am still very poor at it) but I travelled all around Korea by myself. I don't speak any Chinese but I spent 3 weeks travelling around China on my own. People were patient and helpful even if they could not speak English. You really have to be adventurous and have a GOOD sense of humour. If you are too nervous, try something closer to home or your culture first like Mexico or England but you SHOULD try it, at least once.

I'm English but I've lived in New Zealand for a few years now. I still get homesick occasionally but it only lasts for a wee while. I usually find a nice steak and cheese pie does it - those kiwis know how to make a bloody good pie :o)

Only an American could ask this ludicrous question...... they even consider the internet to be the sole domain of the USA.
