ok, I need some help with my math homework. At the top, it says analyzing the graph of a function. Then it says for the graph f(x) below, find the indicated information. And it shows a graph with seven points on it.

and it says a) find f(0)
b) find f(2)
c) find f(-6)

so, can you tell me how to find f? Is it just a point on the x axis? Any help would be great.

1. finding f(0) means that you look at the vertical line intersecting x=0 (which is the y-axis in this case). Follow the vertical line until it hits the graph then see what value of y it is.

2. Follow the same procedure for f(2) except that you start from the vertical line intersecting x=2

3. Follow the same procedure for f(-6) except that you start from the vertical line intersecting x= -6

and so on and so forth....

It is difficult to answer this without seeing the graph itself, but hopefully this will lead you on the correct path.

The notation f(0) means what is the y value at the x = 0 point on the graph. I'm assuming that of the seven points on the graph, there is one at x = 0. All you need to do is read the y-value for that point.

f(2) and f(-6) would be found in a similar fasion. Just find the point with 2 and -6 respectfully on the graph and record the appropriate y-value.

As stated, without the graph to look at or analyze, it is difficult to advise you further.

take the equation and replace the x with the zero.
i.e. 3x+20 becomes 3(0)+20 so (0)=20 on the x axis
3(2)+20 becomes 26 on the x axis,
same for cubes and squares ,

I can`t really understand what it is you need, but:

You will have f(x) = something, an equation with x in it.

When it asks you to find f(0), it`s asking you to find the number value of the equation when you substitute the value x = 0 into it. So, if, for example,

f(x) = 3x -5, then if x = 0,

f(x) = 3x0 - 5,so

f(x) = -5.

Same with f(2) and f(-6). Hope this helps, Twiggy.

since the graph is an f(x) graph...simply sub 0 for (a)..2 for (b) and (-6)..read off from the graph.
