Just to clarify, I'm finished having children but my daughter is changing her name, and contemplating these two. She's finished school so the teasing thing won't happen and we live in Australia so it being a US state isn't really so much of an issue. I'm just curious to other's opinions of her choices.

Sydney - She has been through the book of 75,000 baby names several times. These are the ones that stuck for her.
She's actually quite content with her given name but has to change it for legal reasons (nothing outside the law, she was a victim).

What is her name now?

I don't really like her picks. Does she have any others picked out?

Edit - I wasn't trying to criticise you but you did ask for an opinion and I gave you mine. I just don't like what she has chosen. Simple. Not everyone is going to like what others do or think or say.

Why I don't like the names,
I knew a girl named Charlotte and she used to get called Charlotte the Harlot (and this wasn't at school), I thought that was so disgraceful and awful and I wouldn't suggest she go with that name.
If she goes with Montana then she will get called Monty. If she doesn't mind that, then go with Montana.

I like Charlotte, but Montana seems to have more strength to it which may be good for her if she's been a "victim". Indiana is also another strong name with a similar "feel" to the other two. I wish her all the best in her future.

Charlotte wins hands down! I don't have anything against Montana I just think that it is a cutesy name not really suited to adults.

Best of luck to your daughter. I hope she finds a new name to start the rest of her life with.

charlotte... its a classic, beautiful name. nicknames could be charlie or lottie. montana just doesnt sound feminine or even like a name to me... best of luck and my apologies that she is a victim of a crime... whatever it may have been.

Sorry to read about your daughters situation. I would definitely go for Charlotte. It is a great name - feminine without being too girlie, classic yet not over done and it can be shortened to Charli/Charlie or Lottie if she likes.

Good luck and all the best

Charlotte. Hands down. I've been to Montana, not that it's awful there, but I wouldn't want to name my daughter after a state. Charlotte is so pretty and classic. Plus you can call her Charlie for a nickname if you wanted
