You can expect that there will be a list of assignments with readings (since it's music expect listening too) and something for you to write.

There will be a specific time assignments are due by - don't be late. This means read the assigned material early in the week so that you have time to do any writings.

Expect that you'll be required to interact with classmates in discussion forums to some degree. You need to do the readings before you start those interactions as well.

One advantage to online classes is that you often have the whole semester's assignments from the start - you can (and should)_read ahead.

Ask any questions of the professor immediately, online classes tend to move through material quickly.

The number one cause of online class failure is procrastination. When you don't have to be in class at a certain time each week, we tend to put off the work. Set a specific time that is when you do the work for this class. Don't get behind, stay ahead if you can.

Expect from the start that any online class is harder than the equal in-the-seat class. The reason is that you will not just go to a lecture and take notes, you will have to read and study the texts. There will also be fewer multiple-guess quizzes (if any) so your grade will likely be based on a paper or two.

Good luck.

From the online school I attended, the professor will usually have a Syllabus posted and will refer to it as far as due assignments, etc. Mine had links on the site that read, "Week 1", "Week 2", etc, and each were due by the end of that week -- usually a Sunday night.
Try not to put off the homework until last minute just because it's due on a later time. That really bites ya in the @$$. lol

Oh! If you have questions for the professor, make sure you write him ASAP, because a lot of times they don't check their emails everyday.
