Birth control pills work by suppressing or preventing ovulation. If you don't ovulate, you can't get pregnant because a sperm cell has to meet up with an egg cell in order to cause a pregnancy.

HOWEVER! You MUST take the pill every day, and preferably at the same time each day, in order to keep the synthetic level of hormone at the proper level in your bloodstream that will prevent you from ovulating.

Women who take their oral contraceptives every day and at the same time RARELY, if ever, get pregnant. The "pill pregnancies" you hear about are usually caused when a woman misses a dose.

birth control will help to prevent pregnancy, but you have to take it every day, at the same time. If you miss a dose, you might get pregnant. Of course, using a condom is still a good idea so you don't get any STD's. But if you choose not to use a condom and you are taking your birth control pills like you should, you will probably not get pregnant.

I read this here:
Alesse is one of the most effective methods for birth control (99% effective when taken as directed). Alesse contains natural hormones that stop the ovary from releasing an egg and prevent a man's sperm from entering the uterus. So with Alesse you can put your mind at ease and enjoy intimate moments with your partner.

Since NOTHING is 100% except abstinence, you CAN still get pregnant while using contraceptives, even if you use them exactly as directed.
