I find them extremely peaceful. I used to live downtown in our area (Salt Lake City, UT, USA), and there's a really old cemetery up there, with graves from way back when the area was first settled by pioneers. There are a few places which are reputed to be haunted, but they aren't, unless you count drunken high school kids trying to scare each other.

It used to be really nice to go there at night. It was really peaceful, and if you took a tiny flashlight, you could read grave markers, and try and imagine people's lives and stuff. There's a family up there where 7 people died in the space of a week in 1918, during the Spanish Influenza epidemic. A couple of them were really little, like a toddler and a baby died one day apart, so they are buried in one coffin. Obviously, it isn't nice to think about the pain in that family as it was decimated by the flu, but it's kind of nice to see them all buried together, their names all together, like they were in life.

You can't go up there at night anymore--it's patrolled by both city police and private guards. There were too many kids fooling around and doing stupid stuff like trying to pry up markers, or tip over the upright ones. It kind of makes me mad. It was a nice place to go, even at night.

It feels like I've almost reached heaven because the cemetery I go to is up on a high mountain and it's pretty windy and you can see the view of the ocean there.

I feel at peace and I find the older stones to be interesting in their descriptive engravings and (sometimes) the realization that whole families didn't live very long in those days.

I wouldn't want to spend the night in one. Peaceful during the day. Kinda spooky at night.

neither, it is just a place. I live RIGHT next to the biggest cemetery in my county.

Fear not the dark, but what resides in it.
