It danged sure was not Lincoln.

That log cabin rail-splitter image was nothing but election BS.

Abraham Lincoln had already served one term in Congress, IIRC he was the only man in Congress to vote against the Declaration of War against Mexico in 1846. Because of that, he failed re-election.

After that, he became one of the highest paid attorneys in the United States. Don't even begin to think the man didn't know how to dress.

And before anyone starts saying Andrew Jackson, or William Henry Harrison, forget it, both had served 20+ years in the US Army and were general officers. They knew how to dress.

Quite frankly, it is my opinion that no one ever elected President was so uneducated as to be uninformed on the social conventions of upper-class dress.

Even Andrew Johnson, a tailor by trade, and illiterate until his new wife taught him to read, had spent enough time in Nashville and Washington to know how to dress properly.

It seems to me that the asker of this question has fallen for the electioneering claims of humble birth and log cabin upbringing.
