We know we musn't hold it for at least a week after getting it but when we CAN hold it, is there any particular method you would use? I don't want to annoy or scare the poor thing when it's small so that it will hate me for life. It will probably get used to me and I'm just being a rather caucious parent. Sorry snake!

Temperatures are fine and the housing needs are only the best of the best. EXO TERRA this and EXO TERRA that.

Let it get used to your hand just being in the viv, without grabbing at it every time you go in there. Gradually get closer as it allows you to, then try stroking it. Then pick it up in the viv and let it go a few times. After a while it will let you stroke it, pick it up and remove it from the viv. Then you will probably find it wont wanna go back! ;)

Its mostly just scared coz your giant hand is going in to its safe home so once its used to your hand and your smell it will be fine. Corns are very easily tamed and it shouldnt take long to get it tame enough to be handled.

Spraying water could scare it though so maybe not a good idea. I know my rat snake doesnt like water being sprayed directly onto him. I wouldnt worry about its ears too much though, I've never seen a snake with ears!!

leave your hand in the tank for small amounts of time let the little snake get use to the huge hand that pop's into its safe house when he comes near you dont jump you will frighten him as much as it frightens you after a few days of holding your hand in just take hold of him he will wiggle but it is just because he is not used you let him run though ur fingers for a few min every day and you will find he will settle my daughters was the same now when she gets him out and goes to put him back he dont want to go back home he wants to stay out in the big world i have 3 corns aging from 4 yrs old and the youngest is now 2 months old he is a fast little lad so we called him speedy she thought it was a great name for him good luck with the corn and dont worry he will settle and dont feed him in the tank feed him in a diffrent place anywhere but his tank small tubberware box not to small and a lid with air holes in again good luck

Just holding your hand in the tank for a while each day helps, don't touch him, just dangle your hand near him and let him get used to you. Also, do not feed him in his tank. He will associate tank and hand with food. It's best to have a seperate little container to feed him in, or even just a cardboard box.

it would be better to handle it from a young age for it to get used to your touch. If you are a bit hesitating about handling it, buy a pair of garden gloves for both him and you to get used to it but dont worry, corn snakes are not agressive snakes as boas etc.
good luck

DO NOT SPRAY WATER ON IT because they have very delicate ears and might hurt it therefore making it more agressive!!!

just let it get use to you over a period of time. let it stick its tongue out to you hands so it will get use to your smell. it will take some time and patience but eventually it will get use to you. make sure when you are training it you and only you is holding. if not it will have too many smells to remember. once he is use to you and trusts you then you can let other people touch him and handle him. he has to trusts you fist so he will assume whoever is touching him is good because you are allowing it and he won't run away.

Just hold it for small amounts of time every day, then after a few days hold him for a bit long... then go on from there.
If you do that he should be tame
