in my expert opinion, it means that you did something wrong building the computer.

I'm not sure of your set-up so let me ask. How many monitor ports (receptacle for your monitor plug) do you have at the back of the PC?
If you only have 2, one vga and one dvi that are side by side which usually means your using a video card and your motherboard has no built-in video, and if you've tried both but nothing works, then there might be something wrong with the video card ports themselves.
But if there are 3 ports, 2 from your video card and 1 from the built-in video of your motherboard (usually the one found near the keyboard and mouse port), and if you've only tried using the ones from the video card try plugging in your monitor to the port from the motherboard. If that works try then to consult your motherboard manual on how to switch to using the video card ports instead. But if you've tried all three and nothing works and there are no warning beeps of any kind I recommend bringing it back to the shop because the motherboard might be defective.
Well good luck and I hope this helps.

Blank screen doesn't always mean you have a problem in your monitor or your video card. No beeps mean that there is a problem with your processor or your video card, some latest boards also doesn't give off beeps when there is no memory detected. Try to reseat the processor and the memory card try booting again. Keep on doing this till you get a beep like a long beep, fast beeps. When you got beeps you can that means that your processor and board are working, go on and troubleshoot your PC according to its beep like a long beep is for memory, 3 short beeps is video card, etc

Hi. Good for you, building your own PC. A blank screen usually means it is not getting any signal from your 'monitor out'. Double check that you cables are OK and try the monitor(s) on a known good machine. You may have to reseat the graphics card and make sure the monitor has the brightness turned up. Try to borrow a GPU from a friend (yours may be bad) or maybe try booting into safe mode. The default setting may exceed the monitors capacity. Good luck!

Hey there
In these cases, it pays to think methodically.
The fact that you've tried a dvi port, leads me to believe that you have a graphics card installed, instead of using onboard graphics.......correct?
If this is the case, just because the card is in there, and the pc is not beeping to suggest there is a piece of hardware missing, doesn't necessarily mean that the card is still 'live'.
My advice, install another graphics card, and try a fresh monitor.
Hope this helps
Cheers

I little more information would be helpful.
1)Does the monitor receive a signal at all?
2)What else have you tried? (like disconnecting un-needed extras or drives)
3)Do you have a sufficient power supply for what you need to run?
4)Does the motherboard post, but the OS not load?
5)Do you have a debug LED? (it's less common on motherboards, but would help)
This may seem like basic stuff, but that maybe the cause.

There are two possibilities: or you haven't installed appropriate drivers for graphic card or the RAM cards are not correct ( maybe you are put in slots SDRAM but your motherboard need DDR cards). In this cases your monitor will be black. Veradisca & Best Regards, Neven.

Have you checked the jumpers on the hard drive to make sure that it is the primary or master? Does the system have a OS installed on the hard drive?

despite in case you haven't any longer put in the OS you're able to get to the bios exhibit. in case you get a clean exhibit you're able to get some beeps to permit you recognize what the subject is. what's the selection and development of the beeps? good success

You just change your power supply. Sometimes it happens for power supply problem. Have you puted your power switch cable properly in motherboard?
