First off you don't have to speak Spanish fluently to live in Miami...i don't, but i speak a good amount. But it comes in handy especially when looking for a job in certain areas or industries....but you sound like you would do fine without being fluent...because in North Miami/N Miami Beach you have Spanish like anywhere else...but you got more black and island people...who speak English, even if it's not their first language. But somewhere like Hialeah...you better speak Spanish...lol.
And if you're 18 in Dade county you can pretty much do anything besides buy alcohol legally and you can't get into certain clubs...but you can get into others. But in North Miami depending on the exact area you are in there is alot of gangs and violence...so just know what 's going on around you and watch the crowd you hang out with
And entertainment?lol...especially in music? You just got to go to the right spots...like South Beach or make yourself known, especially to certain radio stations...and they can help blow you up or get you started in the field...but that depends on the genre and types you want to work with...i know 99Jamz and Power 96 are really good with that(they are hip hop and R&B...latest stuff...). Check out websites to...because there are a lot of music production companies down here too and Miami is a fast pace city...maybe not as fast as LA, but it's right behind...and your welcome...anymore questions...just feel free to hit me u...

you don't need to speak spanish but it doesn't hurt to learn more of it this area.
Miami has a pretty busy live music scene, also with the major hotels doing so many conventions, the audio visual companies are usually looking for good audio techs, its a great way to start getting experience in audio engineering.

Go to the bookstore or online and get a spiral-bound book of maps that cover Dade county. Rand McNally publishes them. I bought one before I moved down here and used it for a few months to get from place to place until I got familiar with Miami.

One word of advice--the map book is useful, but ask people if your intended route takes you through any crappy neighborhoods. I didn't do that--just consulted my map book, wrote down what looked like the best route, and went--and after about the fifth time someone said to me. "Oh my God, you went THAT way?!" I started asking if there was a better way to get where I wanted to go. I never got jacked or anything, but I did end up in some interesting places.

As for knowing spanish, it depends. If you want to produce salsa music, you probably need to know spanish. If you're into rap, hip-hop, or rock, don't worry about it.

it is 90 percent spanish there. you should think of continuing your studies in spanish and to continue learning it when you get there. perfect time to learn because you will hear it being spoken everywhere.

in so far as your major ... there are a lot of expensive bars that have sound systems / dj things in SOUTH BEACH.

The issue is if you are 18 i'm not sure you can work there ?

Have another major just as a backup ? Good Luck to you.

you don't need to know fluent Spanish to live here in miami... but if you do then it would look good on your resume and you can get a job easier. and north miami beach is pretty nice, the beaches are pretty nice too. to tell you the truth I've been living here all my life and to me is just no big deal... i still don't see why everyone wants to live here... but i guess it just me cuz i've been here all my life.. so w/e..

It's so close to the U.S. LOL
No, you don't HAVE to know fluent Spanish to live here. I don't speak it, and I do just fine.
