Hi all,

I am being induced tomorrow mornign at 7am.I am 39 weeks and 2 days. I am totally worried as i have been reading alot of stuff in regards to induction and it has all been pretty negative. I am pretty scared, anxious and excited all at the same time. Please tell me what to expect, i already know it will be painful but any info would be great. I am being induced because my bp has been high at my last couple visits. I wish i could just go natural but it hasnt happened yet. I have been trying to naturally induce but nothing so far. Please tell me ho your induction was, etc or just any info. Thx Ladies!

Try to relax, everything will be just fine! I was induced at 37 weeks. I was extremely hesitant because I didn't want the induction to not work and have to have a c-section. The first day they started pitocin, and after increasing it gradually to the maximum dose.. they decided it wasn't going to work. So, they stopped it and inserted cervadil for the night. The next morning the doctor took the cervadil out. My cervix still hadn't changed, I wasn't dilated or anything. So, the doctor decided to break my water and put me back on the pitocin. Within an hour my contractions were coming on strong. I was in labor for a total of 12 hours. I will be honest in saying pitocin makes the contractions hurt worse than if you weren't getting pitocin. So, don't get discouraged if you can't make it through the labor naturally. I actually asked for my epidural right at 3cm as I couldn't take the contractions anymore. After 12 hours and only 18 minutes of pushing (yes, it was my first child), my beautiful baby girl was born.
So, try not to stress. Everything will work out and in the end whatever you have to go through will be entirely worth it! Good luck!

Well, you do have a medical reason to be induced. It sounds like your baby will be better off outside.

For me, I was also induced due to medical reasons. My fluid levels were very low, and they also felt the baby would be better off outside.

The one thing I didn't have happen was to have my cervix ripened, because I was not expecting to be induced. It just happened.

For me, it all started around in the mid morning after I went ot the doctors. They sent me to the hospital, and they started the pitosin (sp). it was not that bad at frist, then they contractions got very strong. I ended up getting the epidural around 10:00 at night...about 12 hours after I was in labor. I do wish I had not gotten the epidural. I feel it slowed my contractions down all together.

At 6:00 the next morning my daughters heart rate dropped really low, and I was still only 3 cm dilated. So, they decided it was time for a c-section. I had one an hour later, and she was born a very healthy 8 pound 9 oz.

As for the pain, it usually isn't that much worse then regular labor, but it hits you much faster. That is why they say it is worse.

Try your best to rest, and stay calm. You are going to need your energy later in the day. Also try to not get an epidural if you can help it. I hated the feeling of not being able to move my legs on my own. If you do get one, wait as long as you can...at least until you are 5 cm along.

Best of luck!! Just know one thing, there is only one wonderful outcome. The birth of your beautiful baby!!!!

My induction was standard. I went in, they hooked up the pitocin drip. I had mild contractions that were a lot like hard menstral cramps until they came in and broke my water. They had external heart monitors on the belly, which can be very annoying b/c they make a horrible noise anytime you move and the baby is moving so it can be a little scary when they don't pick up a heartbeat. After breaking your water, they will likely put a electrode monitor on the baby's scalp so that they can monitor it more closely. My contractions came very hard and very fast and very painful after the water breaking for 14 hours. And then it ended in a emergency c-section. I am not against induction b/c it saved my babies life. She was turned wrong and her heart rate was erratic and if they had not induced that day I could have lost her. I was more of a rare case, so maybe i'm not the one to ask. Just don't expect a walk in the park.

Its much more common for women to be induced nowadays. Doesn't mean its not "natural"....just getting a little extra push from the Dr's. LOL. Definately don't stress about it. Try to relax, you don't want your BP to go up any higher (risk having pre-eclampsia) or other complications. Just keep telling yourself you need to relax as much as possible to keep you and the baby safe and healthy. Although you are getting induced, if you don't already know, it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to walk in at 7am and have a baby by lunch time. It can still take up to 2-3days (unless they have to do a c-section). Depending on how you're body reacts to the Pitocin. My brother's girlfriend went in on Thursday morning and didn't have my nephew until 4:52pm Friday evening. Although she had to have 2 rounds of cervadil before they could start pitocin.

Good Luck and Congrats!!

Good luck to you! My only advice is to stop reading whatever it is that is upsetting you and (as hard as it is) try to get some sleep! This may be the last time in a while you get some sleep. They tell you that when you start contracting too, and it's hard but really good advice. You will have a lot of hard work to do, and will need all the strength you can get.

You'll be fine, Several of my friends have been induced and it went just fine. Get some rest and get ready to enjoy your baby.

I have 3 kids and was induced with 2 of them. The labor goes quite a bit faster being induced compared to going naturally; however, it is quite more painful as well as the contractions come on a lot faster. Many doctors/hospitals will give you pain medication, if you request it, before they give you the pitocin to bring on the labor. Good luck and congratulations!!

have you dialted at all? If your cervex is closed and high you may not have a sucesful induction. Ask for them to give you cervadil first, it can open the cervex. Don't start pitocin until you have started dialation, it will not speed anyhitng up. Don;t let them break your waters either, if the induction takes forever they may try to steer you into a c-section if your water has been broken too long. Don't worry about the pain, induction is really not all that different from natural labor, and thats why they invented drugs!!!

I was induced with my second child. The only difference I noticed between that and my first pregnancy was that instead of having small contractions and working up to the big ones it seemed like I didn't notice any small ones at all. They just came on hard and heavy, but not any more painful because they were induced. Good Luck and Congrats Mommy!!

You wish you could go natural but it hasn't happened yet? You're barely 39 weeks. You have a whole week until your due date. Just wait and see if you can go into labor by yourself.
Inductions pose a greater risk for c-sections since your body is not ready to go into labor yet. Pitocin, the drug used to stimulate contractions, can make the contractions too harsh, and cause your labor to stall.

I'll be completely honest. I was induced at around 38 weeks due to high blood pressure. I've only been pregnant once so I don't know if it was too painful or not. But in my opinion, my labor wasn't bad at all. I went in at around 5pm on Friday (right after a gyno. appointment, he decided I needed to be induced). They gave me the medicine through the tubes & stuff to quicken it all. The contractions were painful. Once I got that epidural, I was able to sleep. I woke up at around 9am & I felt these three 'knots'. They hurt so bad. That was actually my kid coming down my birth canal by herself. Doc came in, checked and at around 9:30am, he suggested I start pushing. I pushed once, and my kid was already out! 9:37am, & there she was, so precious & just sucking her finger, lol.

Basically, it might be painful for you, it might not. Once the pushing (or if you end up having a c-section) is done, you can loveeee your baby. (:

Congrats!!
