I have 2 daughters and I am worried that someone may spike their drinks. I heard that there are papers, analogous to litmus papers, which can test a drink for this. Specifically, there is a Drink Additive Detector, which is a small reactive strip that changes color in the presence of a drug when dipped in a drink. Can you help me?

Advise your daughters not to leave their drink unattended and they won't have to worry about testing them. If someone offers them a drink, have them sweetly decline unless they see the bartender make the drink. Never take a drink from someone unless you see it being made.

Teach your daughters that should they order drinks - to keep them with them at all times. Never put a drink on the counter and leave it and come back. It would be easier for you to advise them of this than to try and pull out a reactive strip. In cases like this, all people have to do is use a little common sense. I am sure they already know this....if not - you'll be a good parent to advise them. Never, leave purses, coats, drinks or food in the presence of anyone unattended by you.

Well, the first thing the girls can do to protect themselves is to go out together and watch over each other. The strips would not be needed if they never set their drinks down and if they got them straight from the bartender. However, I do understand your concern. It's tragic that people can't go out and have fun anymore without the threat of date rape drugs. It's rare to find a parent who is teaching their kids responsibility while accepting that they will go out and party. Keep up the good work! Site below.

You never, ever turn your back on your drink and always take your drink with you (most places are now allowing them even to go into the washrooms). You really don't need any detectors...if, by chance, you did turn your back, simply have the bartender dispose of it.

First of all, clear glasses are a must. Second, have them serve their own drinks and to keep them with them at all times. These tips are a surefire way to prevent spiked drinks! I hope this helps!

Dunno about all that, but the best thing they can do is always watch the bartender pour their drink. If it's something that comes in a can, open the can in front of them. Never leave your drink unattended. Keep your hand over it.
