Yes,

Insects are the most successful species and they don't need a lot of intelligence to survive. Intelligence is the tactic that was developed by the great apes and humans as a survival tactic. Since it lead to our use of tools we started to change the environment to suit us letting mankind spread throughout the world.

There are more insects than humans in the world, but far more insects are killed by humans than humans killed by insects.

It is true that evolution is all about adaptation to the environment, but our intelligence allows us to adapt the environment to suit us. We say that man is in charge and over all the animals so it seems that intelligence is a good survival tactic, but only for the smartest. The Gorilla is almost extinct because mankind has stolen most of its territory and they are more intelligent than dogs.

Dogs are one of the more successful species because they were tamed by man; or did they adapt to mankind. Look at how most dogs are treated; they are pampered pets who rarely have to work for their dinner. They also get the advantage of advanced housing and medical care provided by humans. Which species is more successful? There are more dogs than humans in the world, but there are a lot more dogs than any non-domestic animals and only a few people eat dog meat.

So are dogs successful because they adapted to man or are they successful because man adapted them? The answer is probably a mix of both.

I don't understand, we've ben killing off Horseshoe Crabs and cockroaches for century. In 2000/2001, several actions have been taken to reduce the fishing pressure on the Horseshoe crabs.

Without regulations it wouldn't take very long for humans to completely wipe out the entire Horseshoe crab population off the face of the earth. I think if I was a Horseshoe Crab I'd wish for more intelligence to save my butt.

What is your criteria for "intelligence"? What makes you believe that Horseshoe Crabs and Cockroacjes are not intelligent or that most Human Beings are? Survival of a species depends much more on how succesful it is at adapting to it's environment.

I've always thought it was an evolutionary thing and that cockroaches and horseshoe crabs simply stoppd too early, being non-achievers. (small lol)

Only reproducibility ensures genetic survival. Intelligence has many advantages but is not always aimed at reproduction.

Half the customers at my job aren't intelligent, which is proof that intelligence is not necessary to survival!
