5 y = 18
y = 18 / 5

y=3 and 3/5

if you multiply each side by 3 you get y= 18/5 which comes out to be 3 3/5

y/3 = 6/5

y/3 *3 (cancels out the 3), 6/5 *3 = 18/5 (that's an improper fraction) - - - > so the proper fraction is 3 and 3/5

Why do you find it difficult to solve? The correct answer is 18/5. Just multiply both side by 3 and this is what you get.
