I had one at 36 weeks to check the size of my baby, but I was a high risk pregnancy. Some doctors also schedule another ultrasound to check to make sure the baby's head is down. My best friend who is about 5 months pregnant told me her doctor was going to be doing that towards the end of the pregnancy too. My doctor never did that, but everyone prectices a little differently. Just ask the doctor if you are so unsure about the ultrasound.

I would ask her why but I know that around 36-37 wks they sometimes do an ultrasound if the baby is measuring big to see the size in order to determine if they will have to induce early or need a c-section or anything. They will also do it if the baby was breach at the last ultrasound sometimes to make sure baby flipped around and see what position they are in. Really it is best to ask your Dr.

I'm not sure...why on earth didn't you ask her? :) Whenever your dr plans a test of any kind you shouldn't leave the office without fully understanding why they want you to have the test. It sounds like something they would have a good reason for doing. I would call them in the morning and ask them to clarify for you.

Don't worry your Dr. probably wants to check the size and position of the baby to make sure that they are in the proper position for delivery and that they are not to large to pass through your pelvis.
