2 weeks ago whilst riding my moped back from the lead paint factory, I accidentally hit and killed my elderly neighbours pet dog, Fluffy. Fluffy meant everything to this old lady and at the time I didn't have the heart to tell her. Since then I have been pulling Fluffy on a string past her window 6 times a day, Weekend at Bernies-style, to give the impression that he is still in the yard. Fluffy is rather pungent now and one of his legs has fallen off. Should I tell my neighbour and risk devastating her? Should I also reimburse her for the dog food I have eaten?

Tell her about it. She will be vulnerable and emotionally unstable, this gives you the chance to befriend and comfort her in her time of need... she will most likely see you as a replacement for her dog. She will ask you to move in and offer to cook for you and brush your hair. You will buy her Peppermint Schnapps and ignore her drinking problem. That's what good roommates do.

Glue the leg back on and put the dog back in her yard. She will find out sooner or later, but at least she won't be mad at you. No, you do not need to pay her for the food. The dog is dead. You don't want the food to go to waste.

Buy a new dog for her, one that looks the same...

She's probably too old to tell the difference

That's too disturbing for a sense of humour.
