A friend of mine said her house cleaner would organize junk drawers or organize her canned goods, etc. Do any of you have house cleaners that do extra special things for you that you didn't ask for? Do any of you have any ideas? I want to impress my clients so they want to keep me.

Thanks!

Personally, I wouldn't go through junk drawers or canned goods until you have a good rapport with your clients. Some may feel that's a little too personal, and may be uncomfortable with that.

I think making sure to do a good job each and every time, being quick, yet thorough is important and they will appreciate your hard work and for not taking forever to get it done and costing them an arm and a leg in the process.

I think the post about leaving a daisy by the sink is a great idea. I cleaned houses for a long time and knew the folks I cleaned for, so I would leave a little note or a little card saying "Have a great day" inside. They always seemed to appreciate it and mentioned something about each card the next time I would see them.

Mom says it well.
I'm also against cleaning up clutter or moving things unless asked. Actually never open any drawers on your own else they may thing you are snooping.

The client usually tells what needs to be done and when, how often. So the extra things you can do on your own are just the simple things - bring the mail/flyers in, take the garbage can in/out on garbage days. A daisy was suggested and something like that could be your trademark - put it on your business card. When they come home and see your little token gift they are happy YOU have cleaned the house for them perfectly as usual.

You could ask if not asked to do it by client, if they want their shoes cleaned and shined. If there is a business man in the house they would appreciate that. Golfers may want their clubs and bags cleaned.

For each home you clean keep a list of things that must be done and on which days. Make notes about how they like to fluff and place their pillows, table top items, etc. Be professional. Let clients know well in advance if you can't keep to your schedule. Better if you can offer a back-up who has been interview by the client and approved to come in. Never have anyone else go in the house with or without you.

If you break something be honest - it is always better than them finding out on their own. If you fnd money or other small object s whle cleaning (on floor, stuck in couch) leave a note to explain where you found it.

If you use their tools and products, leave a note about items running low, for a shopping list. You could ask if they want you to buy the items and bring the receipt for a reimbursement.

Some of the things you can do for rich busy people can include running errands, picking up dry cleaners, etc. but they usually ask for these things. They are used to having various people do things for them.

One reason I always hesitate to use a new house cleaner is ? about their honesty and how well they actually do their job.

When I cleaned houses for extra money a few years back I would deep clean their counter appliances. A lot of people don't do that themselves and it really makes a big difference. If your going to organize drawers you might want to ask the client first, some people may get weired out by people in their drawers.

OH....and another thing I used was 'citrus saw', it is a cleaning agent I get at natural food stores that uses the natural acids that are found in oranges to clean and disinfect. It smells really good and people loved that smell when they came home from work. I got a lot of compliments on it! Good luck!

I have been in the cleaning business for over 20 yrs. And I have customers that have been with me for that long. What I do is at every visit I do something that most cleaning services doesn't do like maybe clean under the bath cabinet, or sweep the garage, just various things. I have went to meet customers and have been told that they didn't need to know anything about me, because if I can keep one they know happy they know I can keep them happy. That is a very good recommendation. If you need my advice feel free to contact me anytime. It is a very good business and pays well if you know how to keep it going and always remember time is money and charge a first time fee as well. I have never been turned down with my first time cleaning fee and none of them was under $150.00.

Take care some people dont like other people sorting their stuff out. Ask if there is any small tidying jobs you could do while there
Maybe leave a small bunch of seasonal flowers on kitchen table or something similar
Bring in the washing if its still out etc
Its the small things people really appreciated
Apart from that I am not sure I am only a Bloke

Use natural room fresheners - not artificial. Try Mrs. Meyers. Get each home it's own little glass vase and when you leave, put a fresh daisy in each vase by the sink - a simple, yet nice touch.

- Move the furniture to vacuum underneath
- Start the laundry if the sheets need to be changed
- Offer to clean the refrigerator (for an added fee) but having the convenience of having someone else do it if needed is great.
- Get the corners of the floor when mopping
- fold the toilet paper in a nice point after you have cleaned the bathroom
- Clean the front door
Good luck I love my house cleaners

DON'T move anything around! You may run into a clean freak who'll EXONERATE your company for moving his precious Greek picture frame an inch. Good luck!
