The FBI can't tell if you buy a book.

This book is about 3 days in a life of a troubled teenager, killing time in New York City before having to go home and face his parents to let them know he's been kicked out of his private school.

It has a controversial history because of the raw language and a small amount of sexual content in the book. (Pretty tame by today's standards, but vulgar when it was published in the late 1940s.) It has also been a favorite novel of Mark David Chapman (the man who murdered John Lennon) and John Hinckley (the man who shot Ronald Reagan) so describing it as a favorite might make people feel something is a little wrong with you.

Read it. People usually love it or are frustrated by it. Nobody will know you bought it unless you tell them.

Ok, Penny, you're on the list! Oh, heck, I'm kidding, and anyway who cares about the FBI? They are in hiding or self-destructing or both, too busy for you and me.

I have "Catcher in the Rye" and I'm very glad I do, I read it every few years or so. It's probably only on a list of classics by now. Find a copy and enjoy it, Pen. Later...

There are Cliff Notes-style guides to this book. They answer those kind of questions for people who can't be bothered to satisfy their curiosity by reading the actual book.

The FBI does not track who is reading the Cliff Notes summaries since that is less of a crime than reading the real book. They had probably heard a rumor that Osama Bin Laden was interested in reading this book and are trying to see who else is interested, in case they are associates of his.

I wish I knew. We never read it in school. I wonder why the FBI has anything to do with it. I have never heard of them being involved. Sorry I could't help this time.

Read it in order to form your own opinion. It's one of those books you HAVE to ready before you die!
