Why homosexuals claim to be supportive of each other and unified but I often see the direct opposite...

I often see us pick each other part and claim to be better than or more knowledgeable than our fellow homosexuals..as if somehow being specially enlightened...

anyhow, I think it's stupid and I'm wondering if anyone else observes this...

also, am I the only one who thinks that the GLBT community is sometimes over dramatically sensitive and offended by some really petty things...

hmm?!?!?!?!?

I think you hit on the nail on the head about my own views towards MOST of the glbt community.

But just like with any group of people, you have your good, your bad and the downright ugly and evil.

Yeah, I've brought this up to various student GLBT organizations I've been a member of. I ask why for a group that is all about promoting diversity and equality, we tend to judge each other so harshly and pass judgement so easily on each other. The gays and lesbians have animosity towards the bisexuals, the straights have animosity towards the gays and lesbians, the bisexuals have animosity towards the gays and lesbians, the butch/femme lesbian couples have animosity towards the femme/femme or butch/butch couples, the transsexuals have animosity towards the crossdressers and/or drag queens, the drag queens have animosity towards the crossdressers, the "masculine" transmen have animosity towards the not so masculine transmen, and the transwomen that pass have animosity towards drag queens and transwomen that don't pass and crossdressers.

It's really childish and pathetic in my opinion. We should all be empowering each other, not tearing each other down. With a shaky foundation of support, it's hard to go up. Or put another way....a house built on sand will not stand.

Im not G, L, B or T, but I DO know what you are talking about. I've seen it, and not just with that specific community, with other groups. Maybe it has to do with the pressure. The need to be unified is usually based in battleing bigotry or intolerance. And perhaps the extreme pressure of needing to hold each other up makes a person discriminatory.
for example: They may feel that they are putting a lot of effort into helping to reach out to their fellow man in the same situation and therefore hold them to an extreme standard of behavior. Sometimes unification and solidarity can make people feel like everyone is a reflection on them and they forget to accept other for how they are.

sorry for the rant. Just my 2 cents.

LOL@ poopymcdoopy.

I don't claim to be supportive of all homosexuals. I'm an individual, and will support the efforts of other individuals if they are right, regardless of their sexual orientation.

The only thing I've personally been annoyed about in the last 5 minutes here is the horrid misuse of the English language. I am unfortunate enough to know only one language, and when I allow others to use it, I expect it to be returned to me in the same condition it was in when I lent it to them. Butchering my language simply because it is popular to do so is an abomination.

Dam* it!

*smile*

Be well.

Most gay people I know are pretty supportive of each other. I've seen a few who pick others apart but not too often.

I think it's probably human nature. Look around you, take a gander at the rest of the world. Are they not doing the same thing?
