I don't. They are our competitor economically, but I don't call that an enemy.
China is currently not looking to "convert" other nations to communism... they may one day be our enemy but maybe not. We got too many enemies right now to add another one, especially one as powerful as China.

funny, I think most Chinese think America is surrounding and will attack China first, look at what's going on china's borders-----Japan, south Korea, Philippines , Taiwan, Thailand, India, even Afghanstan are in America's control, America is surrounding China, can't you see it?...who is whom's threats? China is a autistic and pragmatic country, so unless America attacks China first, China won't be America's threat.
And I don't think I can see that day, Iran then North Korea and Islamic extremists are America's priority first, I think.......plus China has severe internal problems, I don't think she got extra energy to deal those stuff, China may becomes a democratic country even before America declares war on her...ha.....

The Chinese have bought their way into your lives and hold so much of the American currency that they now have a stake in your domestic and foriegn policy's Below is an article I was reading (part of it )
-----------------
China threatens 'nuclear option' of dollar sales
By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard
Last Updated: 8:39pm BST 10/08/2007
The Chinese government has begun a concerted campaign of economic threats against the United States, hinting that it may liquidate its vast holding of US treasuries if Washington imposes trade sanctions to force a yuan revaluation.
Fistful of dollars - China's trade surplus reached $26.9bn in June
Two officials at leading Communist Party bodies have given interviews in recent days warning - for the first time - that Beijing may use its $1.33 trillion (£658bn) of foreign reserves as a political weapon to counter pressure from the US Congress.
Described as China's "nuclear option" in the state media, such action could trigger a dollar crash at a time when the US currency is already breaking down through historic support levels.
It would also cause a spike in US bond yields, hammering the US housing market and perhaps tipping the economy into recession. It is estimated that China holds over $900bn in a mix of US bonds
--------------
I am not willing to speculate on wether China set out to be in this position or not - Or if China is or is not an enemy of the United States
But I am willing to say - It is a big problem and a growing one
Will America go to war in Iran - They may have to ask China first !!!!!!!!!!
Will America continue in Iraq ? They may have to ask China first !!!!!!!!!!!!
Will America pay off it's medicare promises to the old - That may be up to China not Bush or whoever is President
Wow that just can't be good at all

Fact:
China stated they would reduce their military by 1 million two years ago and met that goal this year.
Fact:
China has publicly stated they will not pre-emptively attack a sovereign nation and their history proves that.
Fact:
Taiwan has a historical connection to China and in the past it was a province. China wants it back under the concept of one country, two governments, same as Hong Kong.
Fact:
Taiwan and China has normal trade, tourism, cultural and scientific exchanges, diplomatic missions, etc, in each others countries.
Once a year or so they dust off their sabers and rattle them at each other, then go back to normal relations. I suspect it is to appease the haters on both sides and for the USA. I think that Taiwan and China will be reunited peacefully after China has had enough government change and its economy is number one that it would be in the best interests of each country to unite for their common good.
Fact:
The last invasion China did was in the late 70's when they invaded Vietnam because they were giving China a lot of trouble on their southern border. The war lasted one month to the day and China then left, slamming the door behind them and pretty much said, 'screw with us again and we'll come back and do it worse.' Seems to have worked.
Fact:
China, as indicated above, has little experience waging war. The war in Vietnam got bogged down during the second week and China had to regroup. That was because of bad planning due to lack of experience. How in the world is China going to go up against the USA experience? By getting it from other places? Yet China does not have an imperialistic nature. Can you honestly say they will take a few thousand years of not being imperialistic and understanding its shortcomings to reversing that?
Fact:
Mao was going to invade Taiwan in the early 50's but then the Korean war happened and McArthur, upon reaching the China border, made overtures that Beijing would be next, thus saving Taiwan because Mao sent his army in and pushed the Americans down almost off the Korean Peninsula.
Fact:
China is going through much needed modernization of its military because it economy can now afford it. They have no intention of building a massive blue water fleet, or an army that can invade other countries.
Fact:
China is not imperialistic whatsoever. It's history proves that and the wisdom of China understand that to push itself onto others is expensive, counter productive to their economy and produces a lot of hate from other countries. Why in the world would China want to do that when they are doing it better economically that can be controlled, whereas war and its outcome usually ends up not as envisioned?......our two wars prove that. Vietnam proves that as well.
Fact:
China is communism in name only, even Henry Kissinger and many others agree to that. Capitalism and communism are polar opposites. China is not socialistic either because they have a free market system. Nor are they a dictatorship since their leadership is elected by their legislative body, much like what is done in England and other countries. Nor are they totalitarian since that means that every aspect of a citizens life is controlled and yet the people can go into business, quite their job, move and travel at will, and travel outside the country.
What is China's government? Slowly morphing from communistic to a republic democracy at their own pace, not the pace the west wants. China is smart enough to understand that instant change often has negative social consequences. Our two wars prove that.
I fail to understand how all you armchair generals seem to know so much about war and how to wage it, but know squat about China and its history. Thus making bone headed accusations, assumptions, and predictions.
I know, I live in China as an ex pat from the USA and I, like you, believed all the china crap till I really started looking into it. That is when I realized, that what we are spoon fed and what is reality are usually two different animals. The wars we are in prove that, and the pending war in Iran prove that as well. All we have to really go on is what the government is telling us. We should all know better not to trust them now, yet we still do.
Now to answer the question:
China is not our biggest enemy. They do a great job in planning for their future. They have gone from an economic has-been 20 years ago to world class, and that was done through a series of 5 year plans. Our biggest ally is China and its planning - we can learn so much from them. Our biggest enemy is ourselves because we don't plan and instead just muddle along as we have done for decades -- which served us well -- but now in this global economy, lack of planning is going to be our biggest enemy------NOT CHINA.
Peace
Jim

China is no longer a true communist regime. True communism is rooted in governmental control of the economy and allcoation of resources. China really doesnt participate in economic activity. The US and Chinese economies have become heavily relaint on one another. China isnt stupid to perturb this relationship. Many US companies have opened up and now sell goods to China. What is disturbing is their dealings with Russia and other rogue regimes over arms exchanges. Chinas rapidly developing growth has afforded them to buttress their military capability. Since their still communist in a social sense, the people still have fewer freedoms that many others in the world. This is cause for concern that their military capability isnt used against one of our allies or worse off, us. I think this is highly improbable. The more they can grow economically, the people will gather more strength and I think one day will overthrow the current regime and replce it with a true democracy. Japan went through similar growth pangs in the mid 20th century (post WW2) and is now one of our staunchest allies.

You are right. They have the potential for being our biggest enemy. By sheer numbers they have us beat by a long shot & the need for them to expand their borders has to be considered. The fact that China sent troops into Vietnam was, I believe, a major reason we really got out. They had us out numbered 10 to one, we couldn't use the bomb, they had it too! They were also in Korea along with the Russians, although no one will speak of it openly.

I'm not afraid of China. At least not right now. The reason is primarily because our economies are so intertwined, but also because they know what's good for them. The Chinese are realists and want their country to grow. They are not out to conquer the world in the name of God or some crazy dictator's fantasies. That in itself makes me rest easy.

Somewhat. However, I do think they will cool down soon. They are rising too fast, and they will soon have a hiccup. Many people there also work for a VERY low wage, and soon, they will want more pay. Also, there are too many commies. NOT good. I do not think that they will be a serious enemy, though. No terrorist attacks. They do not like us, but they don't exactly hate us.
