It is better for babies to breathe when they lay flat on their backs. Babies can easily roll over onto their tummy's but cant roll back, therefor suffocating on the pillow. If they are on their tummy with no pillow even face down their nose will help them to not suffocate. You should never use a pillow until at least over 18 months old or until the child can roll back over by themselves unaided. Hope this helps...

the baby could roll over onto it and die. if the baby can't turn it's head to the side, then it suffocates. its best to wait until the baby is at least 3 years old before using pillows in their bed.

If baby rolls over onto his tummy, lays down with his head in the pillow and can't lift up high enough to turn his head one way or another, he could suffocate. It all has to do with whether the baby has motor skills necessary to move himself about.

They could roll on top of it and the thickness of the pillow is sufficient that you can't breathe through it if your nose is completely over it.

The only reason I can think of to use a pillow in a baby's bed is to support his back so that he is laying on his side. However, they have special support pillows for that as well, that actually work better. All of these are removed as soon as baby starts trying to roll over.

sometimes children can become lodged between the pillow and other things in the bed or crib. Also some children roll on to their stomachs and don't roll back over and can suffocate

the baby could roll onto it face first. Even my 11 week old son the other night somehow wiggled and kicked and flailed around until the pillow that was beside him landed right on his face and he was tossing his head around to get it off. I wasn't to scared because I sleep with him and wake up when ever I roll over or he moves, so I woke up. I dont' know how it got on his face. He doesn't have controlled movements, he just kicks the air and moves his head and limbs.. so can scoot over and stuff. I wouldnt' chance it is he sleeps alone.

Because they can put their face down in it and not wakeup to move or they can grab the pillow like they do a blanket and put it over their face and babies (and adults with sleep apnea) don't always wakeup to realize something is over their face so they suffocate

If the baby puts his or her face up against it & can't breathe the baby will suffocate.
