My books are still packed from a recent move, but I can't remember if she actually had a name. I just got a new kitten and I'm trying to decide on a name. All I can remember her by is "the cat", does anyone remember if she was named?

The Cat.

No, the cat is not named in Chapter 1 of 'Animal Farm', and thus remains throughout the story. "Some say the cat represents the flaws of Animalism or Communism."

*Thanks for the thumbs down, can you tell me which part of my answer you disapprove of?

The Cat was Nameless a Female refereed to as She but She was more than that .. The Cat was a 'key word' scattered through the text. Words repeated ; complicated, advocated, rat-catcher, Orwell was good with these linguistic tricks and part of the trick (keep this secret between you & me_ is to keep Cat Nameless. Once a name is imparted the Chain is broken. Words unspoken often spoken best.

Here is Orwell On line chapter by chapter - - - go to Library and make new friends, enjoy the adventure of your new digs...

No name. Just the cat. Excerpt from Chapter One.

"Last of all came the cat, who looked round, as usual, for the warmest place, and finally squeezed herself in between Boxer and Clover; there she purred contentedly throughout Major’s speech without listening to a word of what he was saying."
