There seems to be some mystery about this question so let’s examine this step by step. First off you have to ask yourself are you ready for an agent? An agent provides a service for you, but by agreeing to provide this service to you the agent needs to know for a fact that they can “sell” you. How can you demonstrate this to an agent? Well by showing that you have been able to land roles on your own. Showing that you have some type of formal training, or more to the point being able to demonstrate that you know what you’re doing. When you’re trying to make it on the level of a professional actor there is no learn as you go. It’s expected that you KNOW what you’re doing when you show up.

Second, you need to define what type you are. Almost all actors think they can play any role presented to them. In reality maybe 3 percent of all actors can do that effectively. The 15 percent of actors who define their roles are usually the ones who work on a continual basis. If you book more comedy roles as opposed to dram, then pursue that venue. Same goes for horror or action genres etc….

Third, you need to make yourself marketable. To do this you need to start getting your name out there by doing showcases, doing plays or booking roles on your own. Increase your level of ability by taking classes and making connections. One of the easiest ways to get into see an agent is by referral from one of their clients.

Start by sending head shots and resume packages to agents in your area. After about 3 days give them a call to confirm that they received the package, then about a week later call once more to arrange a meeting.

I always suggest going with a SAG affiliated agency first, but if your just beginning you may need to target the boutique agencies who are trying to build their client list. Just remember, nothing up front and always negotiate in YOUR best interest. In other words, don't bit ont he first offer thrown your way. Best of luck.

Internet is probably the best source for finding an agent. Find some companies that some now famous actors have used in the past.
First, you need pictures of yourself to send to an agent and/or bring to an audition. Black and white 8 by 10's are usually most desirable, but have some color pictures in case someone has different tastes. Also, get copies of your past performances, whether it be videos of plays, recordings of you singing, or some examples of your artwork. Anything artistically inclined helps.
Also get involved in your local theatre. Every once in awhile there's a God-send agent who is looking for a good actor. It gives you experience and you may wind up with a job. I know of a theatre in Manatee County near Sarasota or Palmetto. I believe the company is called the Manatee Players. Perhaps you could get your start there.
Remember your integrity. No job is worth sacrificing your morals.

3. develop a physical look that the agent will find marketable
4. learn how to correctly submit to an agent and interview and audition with an agent.
