I am 9 weeks pregnant and I have diabetes and polycystic ovaries. I never thought I would ever be able to have children. The doctors keep throwing out the word "high risk". My question is do you think its ok for me to keep working both my jobs. On my full time job I just sit all day but the part time job can be a lil hectic at times.

ok. Here is the scoop.

I'm not medically qualified to give you an answer to this, and neither are 99.99% of the other folks here.

I cannot see you, talk to you, read your charts, check your xrays, check fetal status, blood tests, or evaluate the stresses on your job.
Neither can anyone else here.

In short. I cannot give you a responsible answer. Neither can anyone else on this site or any other website. If they do, they are fooling themselves.

That said, let your doctor know about your jobs and ask his or her opinion. The doctor has a lot better chance of getting things right than I ever will, especially over the net.

I'm sorry I can't give a straight yes or no. There are too many variables. Many people do two jobs while pregnant, some drop one, some drop both, some don't have one to begin with. Your case is going to be different than just about all the others. To treat it otherwise would be to mistreat it.

Honestly I lost my jobs both times I got pregnant (I also have PCO). I was just cramping to much and ended up having some mild bleeding at 18 wks with my second. The Dr didn't even want me working fulltime at one job so I know she wouldn't have let me do a second. If you just sit at the first fulltime job you should be ok but I wouldn't keep a job requiring a lot of running around. The reason you are high risk is because the diabetes can play a major rule in the devlopment of the baby and put you at risk as well as the baby. Also the hormonal imbalance of PCO can play a factor although they are still doing studies but so far they have found that PCO patients are at an increased risk of preterm labor and delivery. I never thought I would have kids either but after losing the weight and everything I finally won the battle against PCO long enough to have my 2 boys.

I wold suggest you give up your part time job if it is hectic and can be stressful

Secondly you should look up diabetes and pregnancy and get a good idea of what complications are in store for you - then look up poly cystic ovaries and see if there are any further complications from that

Being high risk means you and your baby should be expecting complications and maybe having to be extra cautious, be delivered early, be on bed rest, take things easy, maybe have to put in some extra time and care to keep your baby safe.

Good luck and I hope everything turns out ok

It's really up to how you feel...if you feel okay right now, it's still early enough in the pregnancy to work, but only if you make sure to take it easy, don't overwork yourself and make sure you have enough still have enough time to relax during the day. Regardless of any pre-existing health problems, it is not healthy to stress yourself out when pregnant. Now, if you have frequent symptoms or pain, it is not a wise idea to work 2 jobs, or even 1 full-time job. See what the doctor says, and go with your instinct of what you body is telling you. Your body will tell you when you are overstressing it. Pregnancy is a short time for you to cherish and enjoy this life growing inside you and the transition you are about to make. Do everything you can to prepare yourself for it, and take care of yourself. Good luck!

If you're on your feet, say 2 hours or less, per day in your part-time job, you'll be fine until the dr. tells you otherwise. But if you're standing up running around, dealing with crisis after crisis, not eating regularly, you need to hang up your hat on that job.

Take care!

ask your doctor. also, ask what he means by "high risk" exactly... it's probably your diabetes.

if you are able to afford it, i would, if i were you, quit one job or decrease the amount of hours working.... just because if you really didnt think you'd ever be able to have childen, i wouldn't take ANY chances.

good luck, best wishes.
