A student's grade in a course is determined by 6 quizzes and one examination. If the examination counts thrice as much as the each of the quizzes, what fraction of final grade is determined by the examination?

Let each quiz be worth Q points. Then the exam is worth 3Q points.

The total grade is 6Q + 3Q = 9Q.

The exam's value is 3Q/9Q = 1/3

1 exam = 3 quizzes
6 quizzes + 1 exam =9 points
3 quizzes/ 9 total =3/9, or 1/3
