its 19 here, and under 18 in most European countries.
and our countries haven't turned into complete mayhem just because 18 year olds can drink.
face it, whether or not it's legal, teens WILL drink.
I don't know about lowering it to 18, but 21 is absolutely ridiculous. They can do everything else BUT buy some beer?
rationality was never an american forte, it seems.

That is an interesting argument. The age was lowered to 18 during the Vietnam War in some states because of the argument that young men were fighting a war but couldn't even drink alcohol. Ultimately the age was raised again because things got out of hand.

The government says when we turn 18 we are legally responsible for ourselves. We can vote, serve on a jury, join the military and go to war, buy a rifle (but not a handgun), buy cigarettes and own property. Why is it when we turn 18 we are responsible enough to do all of these thing but not drink alcohol? I agree some people don't make the best decisions when it comes to drinking but the same can be said about all the other responsibilities I mentioned.

nicely extraordinarily lots everybody is basing their arguments on the indisputable fact that a individual is seen a legal person at 18, can marry, vote, bypass off to conflict, and yet they might desire to attend 3 extra years to order a lager with that meal in a eating place. 20 year olds can not even legally have some champagne at their own wedding ceremony. take a look into the countless information worldwide, consistent with DUIs and different alcohol-correct injuries. I mean, the U. S. has the optimum ingesting age interior the international, and yet that doesn't decrease the quantity of under the effect of alcohol using incidents. despite if the legal purchase age is 21, a majority of little ones under this age consume alcohol, and too a lot of them gain this in an irresponsible way. it quite is in fact through fact ingesting is seen by using those little ones as a perfect "forbidden fruit," and an emblem of adulthood. save in mind that as quickly as underage ingesting does happen, it extremely is generally in an extremely intense way. human beings tended to gulp alcohol in great parts on those activities while they might get carry of it.

I'm 16 and to be completely honest with you, I am so against this. I think it shows exactly what this world has came to. 21 is a totally reasonable age to start drinking, if you must, but 18? Nonsense! But then again, if you look around now a days, a lot of kids younger then 18 are starting to drink so, it really doesn't matter what the law is, there will always be those who find their way around it. That's the scary part about today's world. People just aren't moral anymore.

well in most cases no, im 16 i've been drunk, ive had alcohol poisoning, been there done that, ive got a permanent scar on my right arm thats 8 inches long from trying to sneak in through my bedroom window, i believe since we are in a time of war, 18 year olds serving in the armed forces should be exempt of the drinking laws enforced by our country, not because they are willing to take a bullet, but because the military strictly teaches them discipline and responsibility, something a common 18 year old does not have.

Our public transportation usually sucks in Texas too much to trust that kids will have some way to get home other than their car. I think our driver training courses are already lenient enough, don't need crazy drunk teenage drivers. Plus the penalties for DUI are too lean.

Sure. Let's delay adulthood for as long as we can.
You explain to me how someone can be old enough to die for his country but not old enough to have a beer. Makes no sense.
Here in Mass we upped the age back in 1980, but I don't think it made a heck of a lot of difference.

yes the legal age for drinking should be 18 at that age one is considered an adult, can vote and fight for their country so why shouldn't they be allowed to sit down at the local bar and enjoy a cold beer
