Don't bother with blankets for two reasons. First, at six months old, she is still at risk for SIDS, and you will probably not sleep as well at night if you put a blanket in at this point. Second, babies rarely keep blankets on at all. You will find the blanket bunched up at one end of the bed, or worse, bunched up at her head.
A MUCH better thing to use is the Halo Sleep Sack. They cost about $30-$40 for two, which is all you need (one to wear if she spits up or wets the other). I use sleep sacks on my daughter (8 months old) every night. I just put it over her sleeper, and she his SO comfortable! Best of all, there is NO way she can kick it off, and if she rolls over on her tummy, it rolls with her.
I agree, a drafty house, which I also have, can be uncomfortable, especially in the wee hours of the morning. The sleep sack is great! By the way, don't waste your money on the Wal-Mart type sleep sacks. They shrink and become too thin to do much good.
Here's the link for the good ones, but I got mine cheaper at Babies R Us:

First, understand that SIDS and suffocation with bedding are not the same thing. SIDS is a birth defect of the lungs, although they still do not understand it fully. Most victims of SIDS are found face up, not breathing without any bedding around them.
At 6 months old, your daughter is able to move around her crib and roll over, making it much less likely that she would get caught up in blankets. I personally would use an afghan that has multiple levels (crocheted may be better choice). If it scrunches over her face if she is face down, it still allows air pockets. Bit safer than a blanket or quilt, IMHO. Try it. You will see a marked difference. Leave the toys out however.

My daughters 4 months old and I give her a little blanket. I just make sure her arms are over it and not under where she can pull it up over her head. We live in Canada so I have had a blanket on her frequently. To be honest I didn't actually know they didn't recommend blankets. I thought it was just not to have like big comforters...oops. Anyways most babies who end up as SIDS deaths are those between the ages of 2-4 months.Your 6 month old is much safer due to her mobility. If a blanket gets stuck over her head/face she can move out of the way/ roll/sit up etc. Hope that helps :)

Blankets are pointless. My girls are four and six and those blankets still don't stay on. Dress for the weather. Sleepers with footies, undershirts, extra socks under the footies. You'll notice that children usually stay pretty warm when they sleep. I've gone in to cover the kids up and they are toasty warm with their little legs hanging out over the sides of the bed. I didn't start putting blankets in the bed until they were two. I used a baby blanket that was hand knitted and therefore had lots of "holes" in it for airflow. But really it was pointless, they never stayed on. After you stop swaddling them, they are only good for throwing over the baby carrier in bad weather.

I would totally recommend a space heater especially if her room is drafty. They make electric space heaters that are safe for babies rooms. Or if the room isn't super cold, then definitely find a couple of fleece sleepers with feet. You could also put socks on under the sleeper. I wouldn't recommend a blanket unless it is the kind with lots of holes (crocheted), so that she can breathe if it's over her mouth. And truly, she'll probably move around so much that the blanket won't stay on her. Goodluck!

After 6 months the chance of SIDS goes down a lot, but if you do put a blanket in there make sure you tuck it up under her so she can't pull it over herself. My daughter loves her blanket and sleeps better with it, so go ahead!

My baby who is 6 weeks now was given a blanket since birth. I was told from her pediatrician who happens to be my mothers best friend, that i was ok. Now she sleeps in a swaddler, she loves that and it keeps her warm. I use the miracle blanket, and the same pediatrician used hers on her son for 9 months. I definately recommend on. But I was told that blankets are fine.

Yes you can give baby a blanket. Just don't give her more than one or two small blankets and no pillows. My son has slept with a blanket since birth and been just fine and he is now 8 months.

I would recommend sticking with the feeted PJ's or the Sleeper Blankets for a little while longer. The risk of SIDS is highest between 6-12 months because they can roll to their tummies, most parents give them the blankets or stuffed animal to sleep with and things like that. We don't expect a 6 month old to die of SIDS so parents are less cautious at that time (according to studies done at local hospitals). A 6 month old is still young enough that she may pull the blanket over her face and suffocate. I just used the really warm feeted PJ's with my boys until 12 months, well actually even after that because they got so use to them.
