I think that Craig Biggio will become last player to 3,000 hits in future as no one could chase up their hits to reach 3,000 hits in their career.

Craig will retire as Astros as will retire after this season.

Are you kidding? No.

There's a little list of people who are capable of getting 3000 hits.

Ichiro
Mauer
Jeter
Hanley
and more...

He will not be the last to reach 3000 hits.

No way. Ichiro is gonna get 3,000 in about 5 years. I think getting hits is just something that will always happen in baseball and there will always be more people to reach 3,000 hits. The pitchers arent getting that much better so I think it will continue to go as it has the last 50 years or so with a guys joining the 3,000 hits club fairly regularly.

No. The 3,000 hit club is more impressive than the 500 home run club because you're seeing excellence over a very long period of time. Biggio is the 27th and most recent to join the club, and he won't be the last. Bonds will join the club sometime next season, and I fully expect Ichiro to join the club in eight or nine seasons, provided he maintains his pension for 200+ hit seasons.

No. If Bonds plays in '08 (i.e., someone signs him and he doesn't get banned), he should make it sometime late in the year.

I will admit that, after Bonds, the list looks pretty slim: Pudge Rodriguez is at 2485, but one is hesitant to bet on a 35-year old catcher lasting the 4-5 more seasons he'd need to hit it. Ken Griffey Jr. is at 2554, but betting on his health would be foolish. Nobody else is in the 2400+ range without being over the age of 38.

Of those lower down the list, I think that Jeter (33 years old, 2331 hits) has a decent chance if he doesn't deteriorate like many shortstops do in the mid-30s. A-Rod (31, 2236) has a bit better chance, being a couple years younger. Thinking more long-term, I'd put my money on Juan Pierre (30, 1421) having a decent shot at getting there.

Jeter is way ahead of where Biggio was at the same point in his career. As long as Jeter stays healthty, hell get 3,000. Biggio only had 1969 hits after 12 years, Jeter's already at 2331 and averages over 175 hits per year. Jeter's actually ahead of what Pete Rose was after the same number of games played. No doubt in my mind he gets 3,000 hits.

I don't think he will be the last. There are a few players that I think, have a shot at 3000 hits:

Derek Jeter (Ahead of Pete Rose's pace)
Barry Bonds (Unfortunately, he will go after yet another record that he doesn't deserve)
Alex Rodriguez
Albert Pujols
Ichiro (Might have a shot if he can play into his 40s)
Ken Griffey Jr. (See Ichiro)
Omar Vizquel (If he can play into his mid 40s)
Gary Sheffield
Luis Gonzalez (See Vizquel)
Ivan Rodriguez
Sammy Sosa (See Ichiro)
Frank Thomas (See Ichiro)

Derek Jeter is on pace to hit well over 3000 hits before his career is over. A-Rod should do it as well. And remember there is that cheater from the Giants who is very close to getting 3000 hits. If not by the end of this season certainly early next season.

no. It's a matter of longevity and hitting prowess. With Athletes taking better care of their bodies (well some of them) playing into your 40's is not uncommon now. Couple that with someone hitting a lifetime batting average of .295 or better, you're going to get your 3000 hits.that's only 150 a year for 20 years....Unless they break their bodies or retire both Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez are going to make it. Barry Bonds is under 80 away from 3000. People are going to make it.

No, of course not. We'll likely see Bonds reach the mark in 2008, and there will be more after him, though not for a few years.

Barry Bonds, sickening as it is, will probably reach the plateau if he DH's next season. Also, I think Johnny Damon could get there if his body holds up, but that's a big if.
