There is a high possibility that the sending unit in your fuel tank is defective or a wire has becone disconnected. You should be able to get to it from the trunk. The floor of your trunk should have a fairly small plate with a couple of screws. Remove it and you should see the plate on the tank that is the sending unit. It will have a wire connected to it. I would disconnect the NEGATIVE battery terminal to be safe. Remember this is gasoline so no sparks. The sending unit can be replaced. Most auto supplies carry them
