I take acting a voice classes already. I have done a lot of theatre and a bit of film and i was wondering if it would help to take dance lessons. My family doesn't have that much money so I would probably have to pay for them. I was just wondering if it's worth it and if it is a good idea if I want to act proffesionally.

Oh, and if so, what kind of dance should I take? I'm 13 and have taken Ballet, Tap and Irish Step in the past.

Thanks!

Dance is very important for acting which is a physical art
form. It teaches a kind of seamlessness of movement
which enhances the credibility of the actor. I would try
modern as it encompasses more variety of human emotions
than the relatively stiff contraints of ballet and Irish Step.
Try some tango, salsa, and other ballroom type dancing
for the elegance and/or sensuality of movement also.
Any kind of singing is excellent for your vocal chords
and helps to increase the range of your future characters.

Any dancing is better than none at all. Ballet and jazz are usually the two things that any successful dancer seems to know. Tap and Irish step are not as used as much, however, that will still look great on your resume and make you look better than other applicants.

But I will say this, you have a lot of experience behind you already. And that, is very good. That will make you look better than others. You're pretty set now.

as you have already taken ballet, tap and irishin the past i dont think you need any more dance classes ,but i cannot tell that to you whithout looking at your acting, dance makes you flexible to act, but in acting the most important thing is your expression and your body language.
so, if you want to be a professional actor i would rather recomand you to buy a book on acting than a dance class, which is much cheaper compare to dance classes

any how it is left to you to choose all the best have a great life.

Dancing is definitely a good choice if you believe acting is your calling. However, the three you've already taken should cover. You may want to take jazz, modern, or hip-hop dancing to broaden your spectrum, but it sounds like you're already headed in the right direction.

if you want to be an actress in musical theater, tap jazz and ballet are your main three

if you're not doing musical theater, tap isn't really needed. jazz teaches you to move and ballet teaches great precision. both are also used a lot in musical theater choreography. but outside of the musical theater world, i think jazz would be the most useful for an actress... just being comfortable moving and expressing yourself in another way is really useful

Anything that can help you keep in touch with your body and help you control movement is a definite plus.

A dancer can always look and act like a non-dancer. A non-dancer cannot fake dancing convincingly.

That having been said, look in to Modern.

Sounds to me like you are well on your way. It also sounds like you are speaking of contemporary dance. Listen, your are only thirteen, because you live in a contemporary world, that part will come easily. Stay focused on the acting, the rest will come.
