This may be territorial behavior. When you do your next water change try moving around plants and decorations it will make them change thier territory. Also I think it will be fine as long as there is no damage being done. Also I would suggest you upgrade your tank to a 10 gallon or 15? I know it may sound like a problem for money but it is nessicary. What kind of algae eater do you have? Hopefully they are otos that get 1.5 inches.. is it a pleco if it is they get VERY big you should take it back to the store. If they are cories be sure you know they are scaless fish they get 2 inches you need a bigger tank they need at least 10 gallons to be happy and 2-3 more friends like themselves. Otos need 2-3 as well. good luck :]

I been raising Neons for years and the behavior you describe is just the new one trying fit in . If no fins are being nipped or real fights breaking out, it should be ok in a day or two. Neons swim in schools . It is also possible the 2 you already had were bonded and they don't want a third fish hanging around. You are at the limit for number of fish in that tank too. You better watch how big your algae eater gets too or it will have all your neons for lunch .

Tetras are a schooling fish, and as such, they should be kept in groups of 5-6 or more. If there aren't enough for them to interact, they can become a bit nippy.

They're also sensitive to water quality, and it sounds as though this is a new tank - be careful of ammonia and nitrite levels until the tank is through the cycling process. It would probably be better for the neons if they had a larger tank (10 gallons or more) or were put in after the tank is done cycling.

Is the Betta a male? if so then i'm taken aback he hasn't killed the different fish yet. in case you get a sort of weekend feeders or feeders that drift to the backside, your tetras ought to eat it. The betta won't experience as threatened for nutrients because of the fact if he flourishes on the right of the tank the place the nutrients is and the sunshine. you additionally can attempt blood worms, i'm undecided if the tetra will eat it or no longer. however the betta will love them!!! on an analogous time as he eats that, feed your tetras. wish that helps.
