"Why not me?" is a certain kind of cry that implies a positive situation that did not happen to you. Anger is involved but most of the time people just wave it off since there's other ways to attain it, and that it is easier to cope up with the loss. On the other hand.....
"Why me ?" is a kind of cry that denotes a stressfull incident that a person unfortunately experienced. A solution to the immediate problem and the heightened frustration are the main reasons why people express more of the latter.

Of course, as everything is arbitrary. I've never understood
the severe concentration of the "me", or how people are
overly attached to their egos. They need to get the
overview to really understand what it means to be a
grain of sand. That's the ultimate freedom. The why me
people think that there's actually something out there
that says, "oh, today is Jane Doe's time to get into
a car wreck and lose her job. Come on.

Yes, I think it is a more positive attitude to have. "Why not me?" because you or I, are strong enough to take on that challenge, better you or I, someone who can handle it, rather than some one who can not. We get stronger from the challenges we take, some we win, some we may not, but we are all the more better for it! Brilliant question!

Yes, I think that Why not me, is better than Why, me? If one of my Grand-kids were very sick and in Pain I would say why not me, than my Grand-son.

Very simple: In good things happening to others you think 'why not me' but in bad things you think 'why me'. I suppose the green eyed monster also works in mysterious ways.

"Why me?" = signs of self-pity=bad
"Why not me?" = signs of self-awareness, discipline, and responsibility.
I'm not saying to beat yourself up about things, just don't be afraid to take the fall for things. What's the worst that could happen?
