I dont think you can grow popcorn.. but they dont have to know its popcorn.. it looks the same as regular corn seeds so I would say yes as long as you dont have to plant it. If you need one to plant see if your parents have a bell pepper in the fridge.

Yes. I did that as a school project a century ago. (well it feels like a century ago). I planted several popcorn kernels in dirt, then when they had sprouted, I planted them in a small garden and kept them well watered and in good sun Eventually, they developed ears of corn that was all snarly looking, and when dried, they popped just great. The "seeds" you are looking for are in the same things you eat. Dont pop it first, of course. Just remove some from the jar and plant it. I wonder if Microwavable popcorn has somehow been sterilized?.... Get the most underprocessed kind you can. Organic sounds right.

First of all, is from a package already pooped, or fresh out of the bag?

Not microwave popcorn. Microwave popcorn is pre-coated with flavoring that expands with heat. Those coatings could interfere with germination.

Popcorn from a bag of stove-top popcorn would be a fine school science project. One is the germination test, where you put a few kernels on some wet paper towels in a shallow dish, keep the paper towels moist, and see if the kernels germinate (start to sprout). If they do, you've got yourself a bag of viable seeds. If they don't, pop the rest and enjoy and write it off as a "no" answer. In science, even a "no" answer is significant.

Have fun.

Yes, its a corn seed.

A pop corn "kernel" is a corn seed. I was actually slightly amused to find that someone asked this question as it seemed obvious, until other answerers responded in the negative.

Indians used to pop corn with a whole ear of dried corn.

They even sell "popcorn seeds" as regular seeds.

an actual popcorn kernel would be dried out so no
but if you used a corn kernel and kept it in a moist towel for a couple of weeks it might grow

No.
You can go to someplace like Home Depot, Lowe's, or probably Wal-Mart and get a package of seeds for less than a dollar though

You know how you get corn on the cob? They also grow corn on the cob that is good for popping. That's where it comes from.
