There's a lot of great songs, but the ones that came to mind are...

"The Little Girl" by John Michael Montgomery
"Angels Among Us" by Alabama
"If Nobody Believed In You" by Joe Nichols

and anyone singing "Amazing Grace"

For So Long-DMB Band

WHO?

Not very much information on the Net at all that I could find but current (and long running) Southern Gospel quartet The Dixie Melody Boys started to take a turn toward more of a country sound musically (while maintaining the Christian lyrical content) on their album 1985 album RUN LITTLE BROTHER. They went full bore into a sound not unlike Alabama or Restless Heart on the 1986 followup STREETWISE but it appears they were too far ahead of their time and the support wasn't there because they went back to Southern Gospel.

Too bad because there was some fine music on the 2 albums which have NEVER been reissued on CD. It's hard to even locate vinyl copies at this point. :(

Before He Cheats is a goody! First song popped in my mind, but someone else said it....sigh Garth Brooks.. The Thunder Rolls, lol. Burning Both Ends of the Night I would also say that country isn't the only genre of music considered "home grown" though...lots of music out there can be considered good for the family, lol.

"Three Wooden Crosses" is an amzing song.

I don't know if this would qualify under country/Christian, but I also like "Love is Always 16" from Billy Rays Cyrus

i think that amazing grace just HAS to be the most covered gospel songs if not THE most covered song of all time

but seriously johnny Cash's gospel music switched me onto finding Jesus for myself - the album 'a believer sings the truth' had a BIG impact on me

Two of my favourite Country gospel songs are:-

Because You Loved Me (Jodee Messina) A lot of people think it is a love song but if you read her album cover she dedicates it to God.

I Get What I Need (Collin Raye)

Thanks for posting this.
