The whole "which came first, the chicken or the egg" ... I understand everyone has different views about it, such as:

Evolution, and God.

So, would your answer be the same for every animal that lays eggs? Say.. different kinds of birds. Or turtles. Or spiders. What about the only egg-laying mammal, the platypus? Would all of your answers be the same? Either evolution and/or God?

If you believe in evolution, the answer would be Egg. Chickens (birds) evolved from reptiles. Reptiles lay eggs and during course of evolution they woul change into birds. Between that transition from lizard to bird an egg would still be laid. At the crucially point where the "lizard bird" technically transformed into a bird, the egg still preceded it.

If you believe in creationism, well, it could be either way. I suppose if you believe all the animals appeared as is, then chicken. Or maybe the eggs appeared and hatched...

Short answer, the egg came first.
